Warning: if your property was built before 1990, it is vital to make sure that you don’t have a circuit breaker panel from Federal Pacific Electric (FPE) or Zinsco.
Many homes still have these outdated electrical panels that were common from the 1950s until 1990. Unfortunately, these panels have a high risk of overheating and have been known to cause thousands of fires across the U.S. If you see the brand name Stab-Loc on the inside of your panel, you may have a faulty (FPE) panel, while Zinsco panels are labeled as Zinsco, Sylvania, or GTE-Sylvania. If you have one of these panels, you need to call an emergency electrician.
